In order to establish a pattern it is essential you understand how a bass lives in its environment. Knowing where the bass can be found at any given time or place is something you must develop. Always go fishing with a plan in mind.

A close second would be gentle riffle water about thigh deep( in a large river). I enjoy matching the evening hatch in such a setting and catching the trout that are feeding on the surface. Still there is nothing like swinging a big streamer through a hole so deep its black never knowing what will be waiting below.
